How can we reimagine how we tell stories of ancient cultures through objects? How can museum collections and technology work together to immerse students in learning and bring the past to life? In object-based learning, works of art are a catalyst and bridge to help understand the human experience, values, and beliefs of ancient cultures. Educators from the North Carolina Museum of Art will introduce easy-to -implement discussion strategies that encourage close looking and evidence-based interpretation of cultural objects. You will also learn about NCMA Explore, a new resource featuring rich, contextualized, historically accurate virtual spaces from five locations around the globe, each with optional scavenger hunts that engage students with digitized 3D objects from the Museum’s collection of ancient art.
