2025 North Carolina Council for the Social Studies Conference

Participants will investigate objects that represent five world faith traditions – Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam – and engage in a visual analysis of these primary sources as they relate to those belief systems. During this interactive session, participants will investigate selected works of art from the Ackland Art Museum's collection that represent five world faith traditions and engage in a visual analysis of these primary sources as they relate to their respective belief systems.  Based on these investigations, we will consider more broadly the role works of art can play in teaching students the methods of historical and cultural inquiry.
